Two of Pablo Picasso's heirs, his granddaughter Marina and her son Florian, have just announced the release of 1,010 "Non Fungible Tokens" of one of the unpublished ceramic pieces created by Pablo Picasso. However, the family's lawyers have stated that no 'Picasso NFT' has been authorized for release.
The piece with which the genius from Malaga was supposed to enter this sector, and which had never been seen publicly before, dates from October 1958 and consists of a ceramic piece of which Marina and Florian only partially showed to increase the interest of potential buyers. In the words of Picasso's granddaughter, "It is cheerful, happy. It is one of those objects that have been part of our life, of our intimate life, of my life with my children".
Despite this statement, the family's lawyer, Richard Malka, issued a statement on their behalf stating that the information was erroneous. Instead of the Picasso piece, the NFTs are limited to two works by Florian. One of them, "Visage de Lumière", will feature unreleased music created by the artist's great-grandson, who is a DJ and music producer, along with renowned singer John Legend and rapper Nas. The other, "Visage de Couleur", will be released in the form of 5 limited editions of 200 copies each.
"The NFT of Mr. Florian Picasso - and of artists with whom he collaborates - is his own creation, independent of any claim to Pablo Picasso and his works," clarified the lawyer according to text collected by AFP.
And yet another who seems to be joining the NFT boom is John Lennon's eldest son, Julian, who is now selling various Beatles-related memorabilia of his father in NFT format. Items for sale as digital assets include three guitars given to him by his progenitor and handwritten notes on the 1968 song "Hey Jude". Each winning bidder will be able to claim ownership of a digital file described as an 'audio-visual collectible' in which Julian Lennon narrates a "specific heartfelt memory", according to Reuters.
Surely the NFT auctions of these two famous artists, one a painter and the other a musician, both equally great in their respective fields, will undoubtedly be a success, and a source of ongoing gratitude from the great art collectors.
