Social networks are often filled with challenges that seem to have no borders and that, likewise, have no limits.
Under the label of "challenge" these challenges that are practiced around the world thanks to platforms such as TikTok, which is widely known for promoting activities that can even put the lives of others at risk, do not fail to alert the authorities who in many cases, view with concern everything that comes from that platform and that has already been strongly questioned and censored in the past.
Currently, there is a new challenge that has appeared on TikTok and that is strongly worrying the United Kingdom since it consists of pricking condoms from supermarkets, so it is not surprising that the authorities have been alarmed, and rightly so, since condoms are not only one of the most effective contraceptive methods, but they protect those who use them from contracting sexually transmitted diseases, and when they are pricked, they lose their effectiveness.
Alarm bells ringing
An anonymous user posted a warning message on the Facebook group Spotted Witney. In it, he highlighted this new practice carried out in supermarkets. "There is a new trend on TikTok, where content creators are going to supermarkets and punching holes in condoms using needles," he noted. "Make sure you buy your condoms from a safe place or behind the counter," it added.
While some users were concerned about these facts, others questioned the veracity of these warning messages, claiming that condoms are sold in boxes with a tamper-evident seal (which is not the case in all countries), making them difficult to tamper with. "The condoms are wrapped with a security label, so it would be pretty obvious if they had been tampered with," another user noted.
Other dangerous challenges with condoms in the spotlight
This is not the first time condoms have been the protagonists of a viral challenge. Previously, challenge videos circulated on platforms such as Tik Tok in which a latex condom had to be inhaled through the nose into the back of the throat. Another, which managed to go very viral consisted of dropping a condom filled with water on a person's head. Both challenges entailed a risk of asphyxiation and several warnings about these practices were also published at the time.
In the world of influencers, it seems that everything is valid to attract attention, gain likes and become popular, and even a millionaire. And it's all very well when you attract attention without affecting third parties. That is, if the only one affected is going to be me, then there is no problem.
The problem arises when, in my eagerness to attract attention, I do things that may affect others, as in this challenge of puncturing condoms, without people knowing it.
It is very serious to use a condom that is broken, without knowing it. Not only because of the risk of unwanted pregnancy but also because of the possibility that the person using the altered condom will either be infected with a disease or infect someone else if the person using the condom is a carrier of an STD.
For the time being, it seems that this "crazy fad" of TikTok has not crossed the borders of the United Kingdom, and let's hope that it never leaves that place.
Just to be safe, before putting on a condom, check its condition and make sure it's not broken because you don't want to get any bad surprises.
